Great Late-Summer Destinations

Great Late-Summer Destinations

For many, August is the culmination of summertime, with long, warm days that allow for languishing at a beach, pool or lake, partaking in recreational activities and evening barbecues. For others, it may be the last chance you have to get away before autumn, and all its changes and responsibilities, kicks in, particularly if your kids will soon be headed back to school.

Regardless of which scenario most closely fits your life, you still have time to schedule something memorable for this upcoming August. Whether you want to celebrate more summer or get away from it a bit, the choices are endless.

Nonetheless, here are a few of our favorites:

Grand Cayman Island
The largest of three islands in this British Overseas Territory, Grand Cayman is the perfect, safe, relaxing late-summer family getaway. Whether your clan is fond of hanging on the beach all day or interested in doing as many calorie-burning activities on the water as is possible, there will be something for everyone. Recreational activities abound, including snorkeling, diving, kayaking, sailing, cruising and submarining. On days when you want to be landlubbers, you’ll find many historic sites and hiking trails to explore. What’s even better is that you can do all of this amid a balmy, temperate, tropical climate.

Lake Tahoe
It’s easy to overlook amazing destinations like Lake Tahoe, which are etched into people’s brains as outstanding winter ski getaway destinations, when looking for a summer getaway. However, this resort, which straddles California and Nevada, is home to outstanding summer recreational activities, as well as great dining and nightlife. In addition, the Nevada side boasts numerous casinos and all of the entertainment and fun that those can entail. Whether you are there to fish, sail or hike by day, you can rest assured you’ll be able to follow up with night-time fun and the freedom to do it all over again the next day.

Europe
The grand Old World offers a unique proposition in August. It is both a great time of the year weather-wise and also exceedingly quiet in some places. That’s because much of Europe is on holiday for the entire month. Consequently, many businesses and attractions are closed. However, this can be a good thing, especially if you head to a resort in one of Europe’s many dazzling destinations and want some peace. So whether you prefer mountains, cities or beaches, there is a lot of upside to visiting in August.

So sure, July is fast approaching, but you still have time to create a special getaway that will bring lasting memories to you and yours. All you have to do is choose your style of vacation and make it happen.
