The Mastic Reserve was created in 1992 to protect an old-growth forest in Grand Cayman that has remained virtually untouched. Each guided tour of the 2.3-mile trail takes three hours.

Two Fantastic Charity Events Happening In Grand Cayman This March

A Walk In Her Shoes

Support the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre that provides women, children, and men in abusive relationships with a safe haven. The crisis centre notes there is “no excuse for domestic abuse” on their website and sponsors several events throughout the year, including A Walk In Her Shoes on Thursday, March 5th. Men are encouraged to wear blinged-out heels as they strut their stuff down the designated area of Camana Bay in Grand Cayman. Painting toenails and wearing dresses and wigs are suggested as well to add to the fun.

Participants can register individually or as part of a group, with the entrance fee of $30 KYD. Every participant must walk a minimum of five laps in their fancy footwear. For every $150 raised, a lap gets removed. The centre hopes to reach its goal of $50,000 KYD this year; the event starts at 5:00 pm and ends at 7:00 pm.

Light Up The Night Breast Cancer Beach Walk

Enjoy participating in the 9th Annual Light Up The Night Breast Cancer Beach Walk on Saturday, March 7th. You’ll raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation as you walk from the Royal Palms Beach Club to the Ritz-Carlton and back. Make a $25 KYD donation when you register and receive one raffle ticket entry; each additional ticket is $5 KYD.

Walk by the light of the (nearly) full moon before enjoying cocktail specials at the Royal Palms, as well as 10% off food. Who knows, maybe you will win one of the fantastic raffle prizes. The event goes from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

National Trust Events This February

The Hatitude Brunch Is Back

The National Trust for the Cayman Islands is all about conservation and hosts a variety of events throughout the year to help preserve what makes the Caribbean Islands so beautiful and unique. 4 Must-See Wrecks In Grand Cayman

As part of the Carribean, Grand Cayman was once a destination for rum runners, pirates, and assorted major trading companies. Various wrecks are found around the famous island, including those you can explore during your trip to the tropical paradise. And while these wrecks are from (relatively) modern times, they allow you to step back into history and learn more about Grand Cayman. Review some of the best-loved wrecks beside the famous Kittiwake here before booking your vacation:

Oro Verde Wreck

Discovered in the early 1980s, the Oro Verde Wreck is in pieces off of Seven Mile Beach but it’s still worth a look. The area teams with colorful tropical fish and native corals, with the wreck about 50 feet below the surface. And while it has morphed into an artificial reef, you can still see the bow, moorings, stern, and other ship pieces.

Ridgefield Wreck

The Ridgefield SS was once a World War II ship. It ran aground on the barrier reef along the east side of the island and is located only 20 feet below the surface. Locals who live in the area can see most of the ship during low tide.

Doc Polson Wreck

The cable-laying ship named for a beloved island doctor is about 50 feet down off the West Bay part of the island. It functions as an artificial reef and has become a popular dive for locals and tourists alike because divers can access much of the ship, including the engine room, bridge, and holds. The ship sits in an open area of water surrounded by sand, so there’s no risk of getting lost or wondering what happened to your diving companions. Simply watch out for sharp edges and keep in mind the famous Kittiwake Wreck is nearby if you’re feeling ambitious.

LCM David Nicholson Wreck

Named after famed divemaster David Nicolson, this small landing craft was intentionally sunk in front of the Sunset House Hotel. It sits in an open sand area 55 feet down and has made another welcome artificial reef. You’ll see many yellow tube and purple finger sponges, as well as angelfish among other tropical friends. Spotted eagle rays have been known to pay the wreck visits. It offers easy access as well as many treats for the eyes.

Seven Mile Beach is perhaps the most well-known of Grand Cayman’s sandy destinations, and one that features a lively population of tourists and locals regardless of the time of year. There’s swimming, diving, snorkeling, parasailing, paddleboarding, wet bike, and canoeing options at this beach located close to the Westin. And despite its immense popularity, the beach is clean and well-maintained.

Cemetery Beach and Reef

If snorkeling is your thing, you can’t pass up a visit to Cemetery Beach and Reef. It’s teeming with wildlife including peacock flounder, lobsters, pufferfish, scorpionfish, parrotfish, and wrasses among others in calm, crystal-clear waters. Spotts Beach

The Gardens

Queen Elizabeth II opened the park in 1994, which has since grown to include a variety of stunning gardens. Pirates Week Happy Hour On Grand Cayman
