Orchid Show
Grand Cayman plays home to a variety of native orchids or some of the world’s rarest and most sought-after blooms. The Annual Orchid Show on Saturday, March 28th and Sunday, March 29th at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park on Frank Sound Way offers the chance to see 10 of the island’s 28 native orchid species. Four of these flowers are found exclusively on Grand Cayman, making them a rare treat for orchid enthusiasts.
This annual event benefits the Cayman Island Orchid Society and the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park in addition to promoting native orchid conservation. You’ll learn orchid growing techniques and care tips from experienced gardeners, attend educational presentations and sample delicious barbecue from some of the country’s best restaurants and eateries. The event also includes hundreds of stunning orchids on display, many of which are for sale.
It’s $5 KYD to attend the Orchid Show, which goes from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm on both days.
Mastic Trail Guided Tour
If hiking and nature tours rank high on your favorite things to do, you won’t want to miss the Mastic Trail Guided Tour on Thursday, March 12th from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Explore this coveted trail with a member of the National Trust and marvel at Grand Cayman’s incredible flora and fauna. See parrots among other native birds, as well as butterflies, agouti, lizards, frogs, snakes, large hermit crabs, and perhaps a few other members of the island’s wildlife community.
Mastic Trail tours happen every Tuesday and Thursday morning and are $52 KYD for adults. Tours are $30 KYD for children between the ages of 8 and 12. The Mastic Reserve was created in 1992 to protect an old-growth forest in Grand Cayman that has remained virtually untouched. Each guided tour of the 2.3-mile trail takes three hours.
