Sure, a lot of people think summer vacation is just a chance to get off the proverbial merry-go-round and lie in the sun on the beach or at a pool to try to recuperate from the stresses and strains of their everyday life. Then, there are people like you, who think adventure is the best way to spend your down time.
Fortunately, there are endless possibilities from across the globe to fill that desire, and now is the absolute most opportune time to plan your magical summer so that you don’t run out of things to do and get left lying by the pool. Here are our favorite adventure destinations of Summer 2017:
The Cayman Islands
It’s easy to overlook a tropical oasis such as this British Overseas Territory smack dab in the middle of the Caribbean when you’re searching for active vacations, but you would do so at your own peril. This gorgeous island boasts world-class diving, snorkeling and sailing, as well as off-the-beaten-path getaways, such as romantic underwater submarine trips that offer music and dining in addition to the unusual sights. Want to spend time ashore, too? Check out one of the many historic museums or heritage sites, either by car, cycle or tour. Oh, and isn’t it nice that it also features stunning, white-sand beaches for when you are feeling tired?
Macchu Picchu, Peru
There still is nothing like making the trek via the Inca Trail or Salkenay route to this stunning destination, not to mention walking through Macchu Picchu’s Sun Gate at sunrise, or any time, for that matter. Understandably, this is one of the most highly sought out adventure destinations in the world, so make your reservations now. Don’t forget to also book a tour guide for your travels, as going it alone is not recommended unless you are a seasoned veteran.
Cuba
Talk about hot. Cuba is absolutely on fire, and as tourists from around the world have known for some time, it offers so much so close to the United States for such a reasonable price. This island nation just an hour’s flight from Miami is the perfect place to take walking tours of Havana’s stunning architecture and explore its pristine national parks, most of which you can enjoy with few other tourists nearby. In addition, the locals are as friendly as they come and will make your trip that much easier. Just a note, though: Make sure you book a tour guide when venturing afield, as the creaky infrastructure can throw a wrench into the plans of unsuspecting tourists.
So if you want to make sure your summer getaway is filled with one exciting activity after another, get moving now before it’s too late. Your buoyant spirit will thank you later.
